FRHS Therapists Earn McKenzie Certification
NORFOLK, NE — Two northeast Nebraska physical therapists are now listed among the elite clinicians in the country.
Faith Regional Health Services announced in a news release that physical therapists Erin Baumert, PT, DPT, Cert. MDT, and Russ Baumert, PT, DPT, Cert. MDT, recently earned MDT Certification from The McKenzie Institute® USA Center for Postgraduate Study in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy® (MDT).
Russ and Erin each completed a series of advanced postgraduate courses over several years, as well as passed the credentialing exam, consisting of simulated clinical scenarios and a hands-on exam. As certified practitioners of the McKenzie Method® of MDT, Russ and Erin utilize an evidence-based patient management system proven to treat back, neck and extremity pain in fewer visits compared to traditional treatment.
The key distinction is its initial assessment component — a safe and reliable means to accurately reach a diagnosis that will guide an appropriate treatment plan. Certified MDT clinicians have a valid indicator to know whether — and how — the direction-specific exercise treatment will work for each patient.
The Baumerts graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center with their Doctorates in Physical Therapy in 2005. They joined Faith Regional Health Services in 2008. Earning their MDT Certifications places them among elite clinicians in the United States. There are only 12 active MDT Certified clinicians in Nebraska. Erin specializes in orthopedic conditions and has additional advanced training in vestibular therapy and industrial rehab. Russ specializes in orthopedic conditions and has advanced training in sports medicine and industrial rehab.
Erin and Russ join Lin Pu, PT, MS, Dip. MDT, CKTP, in practice of the McKenzie Method ® of MDT at Faith Regional’s East Campus physical therapy department. Lin joined Faith Regional Health services in 2011 practicing as a certified McKenzie Therapist. She continued her advanced studies as a resident through the McKenzie Institute, passing 12 weeks of theory classes, 9 weeks of rigorous clinical practice with one-on-one expert mentoring in Austin, Texas, and then passing a two-day final examination. She became Nebraska’s first and only MDT Diplomate in 2017. With her diploma from the Institute, Lin is one of 196 medical providers in the country to have earned the highest distinction in mechanical diagnosis and therapy of the spine and extremities. MDT Diplomates are among the world’s elite in musculoskeletal care having developed superior knowledge, skills and confidence in their diagnostic and manual therapy abilities driven to deliver better patient outcomes. There are only 456 clinicians who have attained MDT Diplomate status worldwide.
